About Me

I am a Christian, a husband, and the father of four. I believe that the Bible is God's sovereign word, and is the only true written version of His word. I believe that God is holy and reigns supreme; that He manifests Himself as Father, Son and Holy Ghost; and that the Son, Jesus Christ, is the only means of salvation for mankind.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Savior, it is my prayer that you will turn your life over to Him and allow Him to help you to become everything God intends for you to become. This is the most important decision you will ever make in your life. One that has eternal consequences. Make sure that you are prepared for the most important meeting of your entire existence; your face-to-face meeting with God. If you are not prepared, please do not put off this decision. Tomorrow is not promised to you. Follow this link for more specifics.

I have spent my entire adult life in public service. I served in the U.S. Army from June 1971 to August 1974. After that, I returned to college for my last year and obtained my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland in 1975. I then spent 10 months as a member of the Howard County, Maryland, Police Department [Me in uniform]; including 4 months in the academy and 6 months on the road. I left due to a non-healing injury that did not allow me to maintain the level of physical fitness a police officer needs to maintain, and then went to work for the federal government.

Hobbies

Photography is my oldest hobby. I gained an interest in photography back in the 1970's when I was in the Army. That's when I got my first 35mm single-lens reflex camera, a Canon FTb. It has served me well over the years. I took photos during my overseas time in the Army and even did some wedding photography with it for a while later on. Of course, I have bunches of photos of my children as they were growing up. Today, however, I have joined the millions who prefer digital photography. Here are a few of my favorite shots from before the days of digital photography. And here are a few from our trip to Arizona, including the Grand Canyon.

Model Railroading used to be my main hobby. Then we moved and the number of children kept growing and there was no room for a HO-scale railroad layout. I modeled the Southern Railroad as it was before it merged with Norfolk & Western to become the Norfolk Southern. I have now sold most of my HO equipment, but I still have a few locomotives and some rolling stock. Who knows, maybe one day I'll up set another layout.

Railroad Photos. I have added some railroad photos on another page. I took these photos in the 1978-1982 time period. There are two basic type of photos: Southern Railway steam, and some fallen flag rolling stock. To view the larger image of any of the thumbnails, simply click on the thumbnail photo and the larger one will load. If you wish to save any photo to your computer, simply right-click on the photo and then select the approriate option. You can return to the photo menu by using your browser's back button. To get to the railroad photos, click here for Southern Railway, or click here for some photos of rolling stock from railroads that are mostly fallen flags now.

Before Southern Railway merged with the Norfolk & Western, they issued a series of railroad lithographs. I was fortunate enough to get one. You can view it here . Note: This will not display properly in the Firefox browser.

I also enjoy traveling. Thanks to my time in the Army, I spent a year in California and some time in Texas as well. They also sent me overseas for a year to Turkey. That was back in the early 70's and, of course, no one could see the coming of personal computers then. I have also visted the Pacific Northwest and like that part of the country very much. I have created pages with some photos of San Francisco and Seattle. These are two of my favorite cities to visit. Note: These photos are from ZDNet's website which gives persmission to use them for non-commercial purposes. The San Francisco photos are here and the Seattle photos are here. I hope to one day have the time to scan in some of my own photos of these and other travels and post them as well.

Computers are now my main hobby. I also like learning how to do new things with them which is one of the reasons I studied HTML coding. Like many people these days, I run a secure wireless network at home; it's wireless-N using Linksys equipment.
